You may or may not be aware that the number of Bauhaus buildings in the ‘White City’ of Tel Aviv is unique.
Some even refer to Tel Aviv as the world capital of Bauhaus buildings!

Reines 5 Tel Aviv is one of these beautifully renovated preserved Bauhaus buildings in the White House of Tel Aviv.
Brief background and history to Bauhaus
Between 1920 and 1940, over 4,000 Bauhaus-style buildings were constructed in Tel Aviv by German-Jewish architects who immigrated to the region.
The renowned Bauhaus art school in Germany (1919-1933), was where the teachings for this architecture began.
Bauhaus extends beyond architecture to other designs, including Bauhaus furniture and Bauhaus influenced paintings and prints. Tel Aviv stands out due to the quantity and quality of Bauhaus in one space.
Around half of the Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv are protected under preservation law.
The ‘White City of Tel Aviv’
This is the part of Tel Aviv that was constructed predominantly for the huge immigration wave in the 1930s. These were mostly German and European Jews.
The architects of the White City were strongly influenced by the big modernist (Bauhaus) masters such as: Walter Gropius, Hannes Meyer, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Erich Mendelsohn etc.
If architecture and history interests you, do visit the Bauhaus Center on 77 Dizengoff Street, which is moments away from Dizengoff Square, which is a few seconds walk from the apartment at Reines 5 (same building used by the Reines5TLV Hotel).
Dizengoff Square
Considered the “heart” of the White City, Dizengoff Square is a great “Bauhaus Plaza” which was planned in 1934 by Genia Averbouch - a young female architect.
The Bauhaus Center runs regular walking guides tours.
