There is a particular pleasure in a weekend in Tel Aviv when you don't have a long list of things you have to do.


You can take your time over breakfast. Wander through an art gallery because something in the window catches your eye. Stop for coffee without checking the clock. Spend an hour looking at beautiful architecture. Walk down to the Mediterranean for a swim or a stroll, then come back, shower and dress for dinner.


And when you are staying right in the heart of Tel Aviv, so much of the city is within easy walking distance.

Find a good restaurant or café, order something delicious and sit outside if the weather is good.


Have another coffee.

Spend an afternoon with art

If you enjoy art, Tel Aviv has plenty to explore beyond its beaches and nightlife.

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is one of Israel's major cultural institutions, with collections spanning Israeli and international art, alongside changing exhibitions, talks and guided encounters. Its programme includes exhibitions, tours, lectures, films and other cultural events.


Alternatively, make an afternoon of discovering some of Tel Aviv's smaller galleries.


One of the joys of the city is that you can encounter contemporary art in intimate gallery spaces rather than spending the entire day inside a huge museum.

For something closer to the centre, keep an eye out for exhibitions at the Bauhaus Center Gallery, which hosts changing exhibitions relating to architecture, design, art and Tel Aviv.


Saturday evening: The Tel Aviv ritual

After a day of walking, looking and exploring, head back to Reines 5.

Pour yourself a drink.


Sit in the private garden.


Have a shower and get ready for the evening without having to share a hotel corridor, wait for a lift or worry about a timetable.


Then head out again.

You could spend an hour by the Mediterranean, wander along the promenade, stop for coffee and gradually make your way back towards Dizengoff.

No packed itinerary required.

A little shopping before you leave

If you still have time, explore Dizengoff Street and Dizengoff Center, which is only around an eight-minute walk from the apartment.


The area offers everything from fashion and independent shops to cafés and more unusual finds.


And if you're interested in design, don't forget to browse the Bauhaus Center's shop. It carries books, prints, design pieces and other items connected with Bauhaus and Israeli design.


It's the sort of place where you might find something genuinely memorable to take home rather than another generic holiday souvenir.

You can appreciate good architecture.


Discover an artist you've never heard of.


Spend an afternoon over lunch.
